S.A.R. FOUNDED IN SAN FRANCISCO
Sons of the American Revolution, founded July 4, 1876 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, is the largest genealogical organization in the United States and has chapters in 50 states and many countries. It is a nonpolitical, nonprofit educational organization, chartered by Congress on June 9, 1906. The congressional charter was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt. Members are direct descendants of patriots who fought in or gave material aid in the War for Independence.
